Girton Operatic is based in the village of Girton near Cambridge and is an active group of singers, musicians and back stage crew.
Girton Operatic was founded in 1989 by a group of enthusiasts, many of whom had children at the village school. The first show was The Gondoliers by W.S.Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan, which was performed in Girton Glebe School Hall in the spring of 1990.
Since that time the group has produced a fully staged production of a musical show (including an orchestra) every year. Other musical events take place during the year- for example a charity concert takes place each summer in the parish church.

For many years we have stored our scenery and props in a large outbuilding (approx 11m x 4m or 36' x 12')belonging to a local institution, but we now have to move out. We need to find a new store. If anyone knows of a large weatherproof barn/ shed/ garage in the area which would be available at a low rent we would be glad to hear from them. Please contact us if you are able to help. Thank you!

Girton Operatic is proud of its links with the local community. These include the following
- Raising money towards a lighting bar for the school
- Giving young adults the chance to get involved with sound effects, scenery painting and as stage crew.
- Raising money for local causes
- Putting on excerpts from the shows for the school
- Helping the school with loans of staging, scenery and costumes
