2002: Trial by Sorcerer
Girton Operatic combined two Gilbert and Sullivan operettas for its 2002 show: The Sorcerer and Trial by Jury. The action was set in 1945 as the village menfolk returned from war. As a means of bringing the women and men together the village decided to put the production of Trial by Jury which had been interrupted by the start of the war in 1939. After the performance of this "Play within a play" the plot returns to the Sorcerer. Many special effects were used included an enchanted post box which generated smoke and four Sprites who performed the enchantment on the villagers. There was also a scene from the Sorcerer's Apprentice where the village pharmacy floods trapping the page inside until the Sorcerer pulls out the plug to release him!
